I took my wife's 2023 XC60 B5 for its 32K mile service. Just an oil change (8K interval) and cabin filter (15K interval) replacement. During the service inspection, I received a text and a video (not downloadable) from the service technician (see my comments that are inserted in bold italics):
  • The technician performed a thorough inspection of your vehicle.
  • They conducted a basic inspection and found that your front tires have around 8/32nds of tire wear. Printed Inspection Report states that LF has 6/32” and RF has 6/32” tread remaining.
  • The front brake pads were measured (visually?) to be around 7-8mm in thickness. The technician also noted that the inner door panel (same as “back plate”?) needed attention. They proceeded to remove the front rotor (video does not show this) and found the part behind it, the back plate, to be in poor condition. Printed Inspection Report does not recommend either that the brake pads or the back plate be replaced at this time.
  • The front suspension was found to be in good condition, and no concerns were noted with the exhaust or driveshaft.
  • The rear tires were also found to be in good condition, around 7/32nds to 6/32nds of wear.
  • The technician checked (visually?) the rear brakes as well.
Services completed: - Oil change service - Software update
Recommendations: - Replace front brake pads - Repair inner door panel
Disclaimer: AI-generated summary. Please refer to the original video for complete information.

So, what is my point? The Inspection Report (see attached .jpg file) that accompanied my invoice did not show any deficiencies in my brake pads or the "back plate." When I asked the service advisor if there was a brake safety issue, I was told to ignore the AI-generated recommendation as the dealer is "still trying to work out the AI-recommendation bugs."

Bottom Line: Trust is measured by knowledge, experience and skill. Artificial intelligence possesses none of these attributes.
