- 2019 XC 60 Momentum
Hi all, I’m the owner of a 2019 XC60 T5 Momentum. I’m looking for advice from anyone with experience of dealing with potential engine damage. It manifested as a brake failure as a result of a broken vacuum pump. Upon further investigation, the culprit looks to have been the exhaust camshaft which also broke and in turn took out the pump. This is what Volvo dealership and independent car shop are both saying.
Sucks for me is that I’m a year out of warranty.
And Volvo declined providing any goodwill assistance.
Options:
1. Fix broken parts at dealer $5,240 - technician is pretty sure shrapnel made it into the engine. So that could just be the initial investment
2. Technician recommends putting in a used engine. Says it’s $3-5k for the parts and 20 hours for service. Dealer quoted $13k
3. Sell as is - dealer is giving me trade in value of $5-8k
My goal is to pay off car loan balance ($8k) + leave some equity towards a substitute car.
Blue book for my car in good condition is ~$25k
Any Thoughts? Recommendations? Refererrals (SF Bay Area)
Much appreciated!
